OPENING DAY UPDATES
San Diego vs. Los Angeles
I was listening to Ted Lightner (San Diego) on "The Mighty 1090" in Southern California and heard that Cesar Izturis hit a jam-shot single on an 0-2 changeup down the middle of the plate. Izturis had the worst OBP of any qualifier in the National League last season. Stuff like that is going to make Bruce Bochy's size 8 dome explode.
Shawn Green hit a solo homerun earlier in the game. I have a feeling he'll rebound this season.
Milton Bradley was 2-4 in his Los Angeles Debut so far.
Milwaukee vs. St. Louis
I'm listening to the game on MLB Radio (I paid for a subscription). It would be nice to see the Brewers hold on to the victory today. Scott Podsednik is 2-4 with a homerun and four RBI.
Ray King made his St. Louis debut and struggled. There are some rumors that he might be injured. Ray King, despite being in Milwaukee for only about 2 1/2 seasons, will always be one of my favorite Brewers. I was able to talk to him numerous times. He is a really nice guy. Plus he did lots of charity work in the area, and for at the end of his tenure with the Brewers was the only player to make southeastern Wisconsin his year-round home. It was sad to see him get traded, but it was a good move for both of the teams involved at the time (Atlanta and Milwaukee). It was too bad though that the Brewers had to send away a guy who liked the city and was active in the community (and oh yeah, a pretty good pitcher too).
8-6 Milwaukee over St. Louis, top of 8.
Philadelphia vs. Pittsburgh
Jose Mesa shuts the door against his old team. I'm sure Philly fans were just dying to see Mesa blow a lead like he did so many times while pitching for the City of Brotherly Love.
Craig Wilson needs to get a haircut. I'm saving my response to the emails about Johnny Damon's new look for a time when there isn't so much to talk about. Craig Wilson's hair makes him look like he should be on the cover of one of those romance novels in the supermarket.
Pittsburgh GM Dave Littlefield and manager Lloyd McClendon each got extentions today.
Pirates 2, Phillies 1.
